Angie Kent Is the Kind of Friend We Love to Have

We all know Angie Kent, the Bachelorette and Gogglebox couch critic (with her best friend Yvie). But what you might not know is that Angie is also a qualified support worker and Endeavour Foundation’s new Brand Ambassador.

Angie is a “massive supporter” of the Endeavour Foundation because of the experiences she has shared with her other bestie, Tom.

“The reason Endeavour Foundation is close to my heart is because I lived with a man named Tom Hancock,” Angie said.

“He has Down Syndrome and Type 1 Diabetes. Me and my best friend, Yvie Jones, lived with Tom for about three and a half years so it’s super important to me to integrate people with a disability into the community because they are the bestest friends ever!”

Angie and Yvie lived with Tom in his inner-Sydney home as his carers and his friends. Angie helped him with keeping a healthy routine, managing his diabetes and generally “living his best life”. But, of course, with Angie and Yvie around, their house was also filled with singing, dancing and lots of laughs.

Angie counts Tom as one of her best friends, holidaying with him and Yvie in Bali twice and travelling with him to the UK.

Living with Tom made Angie aware of the need for good quality housing and support for people with disabilities. Angie is also passionate about raising awareness of the work that carers, support workers, friends and family do.

And that’s why Angie is so excited to partner with Endeavour Foundation to help make possibilities a reality for people with disability.

“Supporting people with intellectual disability is close to my heart,” Angie explained.

As the new Brand Ambassador for Endeavour Foundation, Angie was invited along for a sneak peek of the spectacular new $1.3 million Prize Home atop Little Mountain on the Sunshine Coast.

Brandon from Endeavour Foundation was there to show her around. Brandon has intellectual disability and has been working for Endeavour Foundation for over five years. Brandon is currently working in the payroll department and is loving the challenge.

“I am a whiz at computers now and I have learnt a lot,” he said.

“My mum is very proud of me. Even though I have an intellectual disability, I still try for things. I work for Endeavour Foundation. I get paid and I get treated so well. The saying is ‘if you give that person a fair go, they’ll give me the fair go’. That’s a perfect saying. The best part of my work day is when the supported employees make you laugh. I like to keep busy. I don’t want to be bored, I hate sitting and doing nothing.”

That’s why Brandon jumped at the opportunity to meet Angie and try his hand at being a tour guide for a day.

Brandon took Angie on a tour of the home and showed her just what the lucky Prize Home winner will be able to enjoy at Little Mountain. The architecturally designed, home has been purpose-built by Endeavour Foundation with a spectacular outdoor entertaining area to take advantage of the site’s sweeping views all the way from Mount Coolum to Kings Beach.

“If I had this space, we could have a little relaxing set up over here and have a few drinks and a few nibblies. It’s absolutely beautiful,” Angie said.

Angie and Brandon made themselves at home checking out all of the home’s mod cons like the huge butler’s pantry, cinema-styled media room complete with colour-changing LED lighting, and even the nifty laundry chute from the master bedroom ensuite.
