For more than 40 years, a unique home in Buderim has been more than just a place to live. It’s been a sanctuary of friendship, independence, and belonging for five housemates with disability. Thanks to your support, their home has received a life-changing renovation, and the results are nothing short of heartwarming.

A family built on friendship

Jennifer, Michael, Paulette, Tricia, and Matthew aren’t just housemates – they’re family. Their journey together spans decades, with Jennifer moving into the Supported Independent Living home in Buderim first back in the 1980s. Over the years, the home has welcomed Paulette, Tricia, Michael, and most recently, Matthew in 2019.

“It’s a nice place to live here, and I like my big room, and I like the Star Wars posters on my wall,” Jennifer shared with a smile.

Michael added, “We are a family!”

This deep bond is what makes their home so special, and why it deserved a fresh new chapter.

A reno that puts people first

Earlier this year, Endeavour Foundation invested $250,000 into a five-month renovation of the Buderim home. But this wasn’t just about paint and plaster, it was about creating a space that truly reflects the needs, personalities, and independence of the people who live there, and will continue to support them as their needs change.

Empowering independence, one room at a time

For Matthew, the best part is having a say in how his space looks: “I like my bathroom, and my furniture. I picked it!”

Paulette, who’s lived in the home for over 30 years, loves the view from the top of the hill. “I can see the ships from out there too. I like that the rooms are bigger, and I really like the changes here.”

Michael’s mum, Jennifer, says the transformation has made a huge difference. “The bigger bedrooms are fantastic. Michael chose everything in there. He really enjoys his personal space, but everyone really loves to eat together at the dining table.”
