For Jayden, independence isn’t about doing everything alone. It’s about having the right support to do more of what he loves – whether that’s catching public transport, trying new recipes or dancing the night away.

With the help of Endeavour Foundation’s Individualised Support, Jayden is leading a life of confidence, choice and independence.

Getting out and about and exploring his city is one of Jayden's favourite things to do.

“I like catching the bus, trains and even ferries,” Jayden said.

Together with his Support Worker, Jamie, Jayden regularly heads into Brisbane City or South Bank, sometimes even to play Pokémon Go, and when the sun goes down?

“We go clubbing. We catch the ferry to the city. That is what we did last week. It was all good fun,” Jayden said with a smile.

“I like going to the Valley (Fortitude Valley) because of the nightlife.”

Dancing, music and laughter are the things that light Jayden up.

“The music makes me feel pumped up. I like dancing,” he said.

And Jamie gets it.

“I like supporting him to do the things that he likes to do,” Jamie said.

“Most people would not think that people with disability go clubbing and [enjoy] stuff like that. But everyone likes going clubbing, and Jayden’s young.”

And while Jayden’s kicking goals in his social life, he’s also building everyday independence with Jamie’s support, like planning meals, grocery shopping, and expanding his cooking skills.

“I remember when I first started [working] with Jayden, we were always making fish tacos, which are delicious, [but] last week we made meatballs and today, risotto.”

Whether he’s learning new recipes, catching the train, or dancing until his feet hurt, Jayden is owning every part of his journey. And the best part? He’s doing it his way, with support from Endeavour Foundation.
