Holiday House or Forever Home?

1

“Luxurious, private, resort-style home with sparkling pool and entertaining deck, just 450 metres to Coolum Beach.”

It reads like a high-end holiday listing doesn’t it? That’s because Endeavour Foundation’s latest Sunshine Coast Prize Home genuinely was a luxe holiday rental in its former life.

If, by chance, you’ve actually considered staying in this amazing home, we’re truly sorry. At least for now, it’s off the market.

However, the good news is that if you buy a ticket, this stunning beach house could become not just your holiday home, but your forever home.

Valued at a cool $1.3 million dollars, the fully-furnished home is nestled just a couple of blocks back from the Coolum Surf Club and the red and yellow flags of this world-famous surf beach.

You can get from A (the front gate) to B (golden sand) in just a five-minute walk. The return trip could even be quicker with a strong sea breeze behind you.

While the home really is smack bang in the thick of things at Coolum, once inside the white-washed ‘compound’ you would really never know. The inner sanctum is all about peace and relaxation. What you will also notice as soon as you set foot inside the front gate is the cruisy holiday vibe oozing from every nook and cranny.

If you had to describe this Prize Home in a few words, ‘architecturally-designed beach shack’ is probably a pretty good way to sum it up.

The architect really has put some very serious effort into creating something that feels as casual and carefree as possible.

The home’s plan hinges on a central breezeway that links the living and bedroom wings while also serving as the dining room. Opposite the entry doors, the space opens out through more sliding doors to the sparkling centrepiece – a turquoise blue swimming pool.

The open-plan living areas and master bedroom suite wrap around three sides of the pool with vast expanses of glass bringing in streams of light while still affording the ultimate in privacy. This inspired, inward-focused courtyard design has the effect of making you feel like you’ve just checked into some sort of luxury Balinese villa. You know, the kind of place that makes spending the whole day in your sarong (yes, even you gents) seem completely appropriate.

So, when in Rome…Bali… um, Coolum, snatch up a table cloth to wrap yourself in and settle into the flow of coastal life. With the doors flung open you can literally dive through the pool on your way from the master bedroom to the kitchen in the morning, then head back out to the deck for breakfast.

Surprisingly though, all of these features aren’t what make it such a great holiday house. What really sets this home apart is the way it has been designed with flexible accommodation zones to maximise holiday letting potential or cater to changing family needs.

The real game-changer is the front bedroom wing of the home, or the ‘apartment wing’ you could call it. Here, two of the home’s three bedrooms are able to be separated from the rest of the home to create a fully self-contained holiday apartment.

The room facing the front courtyard of the home serves as the master bedroom for the apartment, with sliding glass doors opening onto its own private patio. Decorated with white linen and casually luxe furnishings, this room is Instagram-ready (#winning) and waiting to be enjoyed.

The two double bedrooms in this wing share a spacious, two-way bathroom so each room feels like it has its own ensuite (again, #winning). Plus, there’s also a well-appointed kitchenette for guests to use including a sink and integrated full-size fridge behind the sleek timber kitchen cabinetry.

Most importantly, in terms of holiday rentals, the apartment enjoys its own separate external entry – a big plus for your Airbnb listing – giving guest complete autonomy to come and go as they please without disrupting the rest of the household (#coulditgetanybetterthanthis)

This bedroom wing / apartment wing offers a huge amount of flexibility in terms of how you use the home and, in turn, huge opportunities for rental income.

  • For couples or singles, you can live or holiday in the main part of the home while you let out the apartment for extra income. Talk about an easy way to bring in some extra cash.
  • For families who want to use the entire home (whether it just be for holidays or permanently), the bedroom wing offers the perfect space for the kids to chill out and would even allow them a little independence in teenage years (if you can trust them).
  • For anyone wanting to use it as a holiday home and rent it out in between times, the flexible floor plan means that you can either rent it out as a complete, three-bedroom home or as two separate lettings. That means two very important things, maximum occupancy and maximum rental return.
  • Also, if you’re renting the home to a couple who just need the one master bedroom, you can lock off the bedrooms in the apartment wing so that you can be sure they won’t be used and will stay pristine for the next round of guests.

Whatever way you look at it, ‘It’s all good’.

With the rapid rise in popularity of online holiday letting platforms like Airbnb, the versatile design of our beach house Prize Home really is the way of the future. Particularly in a holiday hot-spot like Coolum Beach.

Home owners are getting savvy and learning how to leverage their home and location to earn additional income and help pay down the mortgage. In the case of our Coolum Prize Home, the mortgage won’t be an issue of course, but by letting out all or part of the home, could generate a very tidy income stream.

So, the burning question is, if you were the lucky winner of this beautiful beach house, what would you decide to do with it?

Would it become a much-loved holiday house for you and your family to make memories over long lazy summers and sunny weekends?

A lucrative investment in one of Queensland’s most popular holiday addresses?

Or would you pack everything up in a heartbeat and make this amazing beach house your forever home by the sea?

Whatever you decide, our beach house Prize Home is ready and raring to go. Fully furnished with high-quality designer pieces that add to the holiday vibe, the home is ready and waiting for you, or your first guests.

From the carefully curated interiors (including the luxurious accessories and hand-picked artwork) to the uber-cool Tikki Bar out by the pool, every detail throughout the home has been considered to create a truly special space you will never want to leave.

Holiday house or forever home? You decide

We’ve all stayed somewhere on holidays and said “Imagine if you could actually live here…” Now that dream could become a reality.

Getting there

Coolum is just over an hour from the northside of Brisbane. Head up the Bruce Highway then take the Mooloolaba exit so you can cruise the rest of the way up the Sunshine Coast Motorway. The other option is taking the M1 all the way up to the Yandina exit then follow Yandina Coolum Road across to Coolum Beach.
